In addition to Google’s upcoming Nexus phones, the DROID Turbo 2 is one of the remaining high-profile smartphones that are due to launch before the end of 2015. And thanks to a new report, we may now know exactly when in the next three months that the Turbo 2 will launch.
The folks at Phandroid say that the DROID Turbo 2 is currently slated to be announced on October 15 and then launch on October 29. While obviously unofficial, October 29 is a Thursday, which is the day of the week that Verizon typically likes to launch new products.
Also of note is that this report says that the DROID Turbo 2 will be available in Moto Maker. That’d make it the first DROID phone that’s customizable with Moto Maker. Interestingly, it’s said that some Verizon stores will dedicate part of their shops to showcasing all of the back cover options for the Turbo 2, letting customers get an idea of what each looks and feels like before buying. And if you do customize a Turbo 2 using Moto Maker, Motorola will allegedly give you 1 free swap within 2 years of your purchase if you end up not feeling your design or if you get tired of it.
The DROID Turbo 2 will reportedly feature a 5.43-inch 2560x1440 display that’s described as “shatterproof.” Motorola will reportedly achieve this by reinforcing the display with metal edges. Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 810 processor, 32/64GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, a 3760mAh battery, and 21-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras.
The DROID Turbo was a solid Verizon phone, even if its Lollipop update took quite a while to launch. If its rumored spec list holds true, the Turbo 2 ought to be a respectable follow-up, packing some newer specs and a battery that’s a smidge smaller than the Turbo 1 but is still pretty large.
