Google can already help you pay your bills with a Google Now bill reminder card, but according to a new report, the company is planning to take things a step further.
A new Google service called “Pony Express” is reportedly in the works, with the goal of helping you easily receive, organize, and pay your bills. Google is said to be working with third-party firms that print and mail bills for insurance companies, telecoms, utilities, and more. Once you verify your information, you may be able to receive bills in Gmail or Inbox, nearly organized into a single Pony Express folder. Once it’s time to pay your bill, you’ll be able to do so using the Pony Express feature and a linked credit or debit card without leaving your email app (the image below demonstrates paying a bill inside Inbox.)
Other features of Pony Express are said to include the ability to share bills with other Gmail users, bring up customer service information for a provider, and support for taking a photo of a paper document and archiving it in Pony Express.
Obviously paperless billing has been a thing for a while now, with some companies even offering you a slight discount as an incentive to go paperless. The big advantage with Pony Express would be that all of your bills are automatically filed away in one folder and that you could quickly pay them without having to navigate to a service provider’s website, enter your password or payment info, and so on.
Pony Express (it’s not known if that’s just a codename or if it’ll be the name of the launching product) is currently expected to launch in the fourth quarter.
