HTC revealed today that it’ll livestream tomorrow’s big announcement, and it’s even got a name for the big news now: Uh-Oh. Unsurprisingly, though, news of what HTC is planning to announce has leaked out ahead of the event.
A new report claims that HTC Uh-Oh will include one full year of protection for your HTC device that’ll cover broken glass, water damage, and even switching carriers. HTC already has a service called Advantage that’ll cover a one-time screen replacement, but that is only good for six months of protection.
In addition to hardware protection, HTC Uh-Oh will include a trade-in service that’ll get you up to $100 toward a new HTC One product. Other details on this buyback service are light.
I’m sure HTC will have much more to tell us about Uh-Oh tomorrow, but so far it sounds like an enticing service. Perhaps more interesting is the part about switching carriers. Given all of the “We’ll pay your ETF!” and other switcher offers that carriers are throwing around lately, offering to swap one HTC One M9 for another that’s compatible with a new carrier could be a good way to keep a user in HTC’s ecosystem.
