Samsung has announced that it’s begun mass production of a 14 nanometer processor.
The new 14nm processor uses FinFET technology to help make it more efficient and productive. Samsung says that, when compared to its 20nm process technology, this new 14nm tech offers 20 percent faster speed, 35 percent lower power consumption, and a 30 percent productivity gain.
The 14nm process will be used in Samsung’s Exynos 7 Octa, after which it will be used in other products. We’ll have to wait until Samsung puts the Exynos 7 Octa inside a device before we can test it and see what kind of improvements it offers, but the new 14nm process sounds like it offers some solid gains over Samsung’s 20nm process.
