The Jolla Tablet’s funding campaign was thought to have come to an end in mid-December, but now it’s back on Indiegogo with some notable hardware upgrades.
Jolla is now taking orders for a new 64GB version of the Jolla Tablet. This model features double the storage of the original Jolla Tablet as well as a beefed up price tag of $249, up from the $219 price of the 32GB version.
Along with the additional storage, the updated Jolla Tablet features an “open source memory card solution” that adds support for 128GB microSD cards. However, cards larger than 32GB won’t play nicely with Windows computers due to Microsoft licensing of the exFAT file system.
Also included with this upgraded tablet is a fully laminated display, gyroscope, compass, and a 4450mAh battery. The tablet was previously expected to feature a 4300mAh battery.
Jolla says that reopening its funding campaign won’t affect its estimated launch of the Jolla Tablet, which is slated to begin shipping in May 2014. If you’ve already ordered a 32GB Jolla Tablet, you can upgrade to a 64GB model for $25.
The Jolla Tablet finished its funding campaign at $1.824 million, but as of this writing it’s at $1.920 million, so it’s clear that some folks are interested in an upgraded Sailfish slate. While it’s kind of a bummer that microSD cards larger than 32GB that are used with the Jolla Tablet won’t play nicely with Windows, the upgrades that come with the 64GB Jolla Tablet sound pretty solid, and I’m sure that many backers will happily fork over an extra $25 to double their slate’s storage.
