PhoneDog goes hands-on with the new Alcatel OneTouch Watch. Alcatel is getting into the smartwatch game at CES with the unveiling of the Alcatel OneTouch Watch that can be used with Android, iOS and Windows Phone smartphones. With a circular display similar to that of the Motorola Moto 360 and a price of $150, the Alcatel OneTouch Watch should be able to make a name for its self when it hits the market this spring. At the CES 2015, the Alcatel OneTouch Watch was put on display for audience to take a look at. This new wearable device from Alcatel comes with a simple app drawer that can quickly perform a number of things. With it, the brightness on the display, color of background, and Watch Face can be selected. The whole point of the watch is in its simplicity and easy to use. The watch does not run Android Wear. Instead, it runs on Alcatel’s own proprietary closed OS; enabling the watch to work with any device running Android 4.3 or newer and any iOS device.
Just one swipe on the home screen will lead to the notification center. Through this, the built-in weather app, heart rate monitor, running timekeeper, stopwatch, and music can be accessed. The music volume can also be controlled by simply swiping down on the home screen, along with camera control and the other simple, basic functionalities needed from a smartwatch.
The Alcatel OneTouch Watch is targeted for the mass market and is set to be released in North America and the US in March for a SRP $149.
The coolest feature of the watch is its simplicity in charging. You won’t need any special dongle since the watch has a built-in male USB on its band. You just need to pop it into a laptop or any other USB charging dongle for smartphone devices, pull out the USB cord, and plug in the band. The watch comes with 210mAh battery that can last 2-3 days of use. Charging time is within one hour or so.
The watch has a nice, clean form factor with four color options available—black, white with white rubber band, white metallic, and chrome metallic. Flipping to the back side will reveal the built-in heart rate sensor, which has a clean look. The watch is simple and classic and can easily be customized to fit the wrist. With its clasp, the OneTouch Watch feels like a bracelet. Just simply close it and you’re all set to go.
