The LG G Flex 2 has just been announced at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. The LG G Flex 2 has been shrunken down to 5.5 inches, compared to the original G Flex's 6-inch size, but it's packed more flagship specs including the brand new octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU. The LG G Flex 2 is LG’s second generation of the G Flex model. The device comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p OLED display curved with the shape of the phone. Just like last year, the display is made out of plastic so it is helpful when bending the phone. It also helps that the device is bend-resistant and more scratch-resistant.
The phone comes with back color options in either Bright Red or Glossy Black. It also has the next generation of self-healing technology, making the phone two times faster in healing from scratches caused by surfaces.
Running on flagship specs, the G Flex 2 is built with an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor clocked in at 2 GHz. It is the first phone announced with octa-core Snapdragon chip. The cores have partnered up with either 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM, depending on the selection flash storage option. As of this moment, the G Flex 2 is available in either 16 GB or 32 GB.
The back camera has been upgraded to a full 13 MP camera with OIS and laser auto-focus. It’s likely the same camera hardware as the LG G3, which was earlier reviewed to be a nice overall camera. It also comes with a 2.1 MP front-facing camera. Just like the LG G3, the G Flex 2 has a 3000 mAh battery.
The phone runs on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, which does not have too much difference from the LG G3’s 4.4.4 KitKat OS. It has the same features such as double tap to wake, Knock Code, and LG Custom Widgets on the home screen. The only hint of Lollipop on the G Flex 2 is seen on the on-screen buttons or when playing Flappy Bird game on Lollipop. It does feel faster than the LG G3 but it could be from the extra boost brought about by the 4 extra cores.
