Remember that recent leak that showed that an upcoming version of Android’s Gmail app may include support for non Gmail accounts like Outlook and Yahoo? Well that Gmail update has leaked, and it looks like that feature does indeed exist.
The Gmail version 5.0 APK has been shared by the folks at Android Police, complete with a number of big changes. As I mentioned before, the app supports non Gmail accounts like Outlook, Yahoo, AOL Mail and more. You can also plug in your Exchange emails and have them pulled into the Gmail app.
Gmail v5.0 also includes a Material Design user interface that’s similar to Google’s new Inbox by Gmail app. The bar at the top of the app is red, there’s a floating hamburger button that’ll show your slide-out menu and we can also see a round, floating Compose button in the lower right corner.
I’m sure that most folks would be pleased with just a Material Design makeover in Gmail v5.0, but the inclusion of support for non-Gmail accounts makes the update even sweeter. The feature will make Android’s stock Email app unnecessary, meaning that users with non-Gmail accounts won’t have to hop between apps to check their different inboxes. Hooray for fewer steps!
If you’d like to see more screenshots of this new Gmail app or go ahead and install it yourself, you can find both at the Android Police link below.
