Remember that LG G3 Screen that leaked earlier today? Turns out that it’s the real deal, as is the LG-made processor that’s powering it.
LG tonight announced NUCLUN, its first mobile processor that’s got an eight-core architecture and LTE-A Cat. 6 compatibility. The NUCLUN uses ARM’s big.LITTLE tech, including four high-performance 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A7 cores for less demanding tasks.
The LG G3 Screen includes NUCLUN at its heart as well as a 5.9-inch 1920x1080 IPS display and 2.1-megapixel camera on its face. Around back is a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. Rounding out the G3 Screen’s spec list is 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, 2GB of RAM, a 1W speaker, 3000mAh battery and Android 4.4, all packed into a body that’s 9.5mm thick.
LG is a pretty big player in the mobile arena, offering its own smartphones and dumbphones in addition to displays, batteries and more. It’s kind of surprising that it took LG this long to make its own processors, too, but that’s finally happened now. And while the LG G3 Screen isn’t the most high-end handset around, I’m betting that there’ll be a lot of attention when it launches as folks hurry to find out what LG’s first processor is capable of.
