In the immortal words of Star Wars jedi master Yoda — if he were interested in mobile products, that is — “Begun, the IFA product onslaught has.”
ASUS today kicked off what’s sure to be a bevy of new hardware announcements with the introduction of its first Android Wear offering. Dubbed the ZenWatch, the wearable features a 1.63-inch 320x320 AMOLED display covered by 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3.
Under the ZenWatch’s hood lives a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, 1.4Wh battery, Bluetooth 4.0 support and a 9 axis sensor. The ZenWatch is IP55 rated for water resistance and features a silver body with gold layering and a brown leather strap. When it comes time to charge the ZenWatch, the unit includes a charging cradle with a microUSB port.
Finally, ASUS has added a few software goodies to its first Android Wear offering. Those include Remote Camera, Cover to Mute, Find My Phone, Presentation Control and more.
ASUS also took the wraps off of a new tablet today. The MeMO Pad 7 (ME572C) is an Android 4.4 slate features a 7-inch 1920x1200 IPS display and a 1.83GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 processor at its heart. Also included is 16 or 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, 3G and 4G connectivity and a pair of cameras: a 5-megapixel shooter on back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front.
