To date, BlackBerry has partnered with Porsche Design to create a couple of luxury smartphones: the P’9981 that’s based on the Bold 9900 and runs BlackBerry 7, and the newer P’9982 that’s based on the Z10 and is powered by BlackBerry 10. Now a new leak has revealed that a third premium model could be on the way.
A developer version of BlackBerry 10.3 was recently unleashed to so that devs can test their apps, and as usually happens with developer software releases, folks have been digging into the code to try and find hidden nuggets of info. The image you see above was discovered inside BB10.3, purportedly showing an unannounced BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9983 that’s codenamed “BlackBerry Khan.”
Unfortunately for us, details on the Khan are still fairly light. Heck, it’s not even clear if the P’9983 will ever see the light of day. From what we can glean from the image, though, the P’9983 appears to have a square body and angular bottom similar to previous Porsche Design phones as well as two round cutouts that may be for a camera and flash.
The BlackBerry Porsche Design smartphones have always been fairly attractive pieces of kit, though I suppose for their $1,000-plus price tags, you would hope that they’d be good-looking. This P’9983 looks to continue that trend, though as I mentioned before, it’s not clear if we’ll ever actually get to see what this thing looks like. And considering how rough BlackBerry’s sales have been as of late, some might argue that it might be better if the company focuses on devices with a wider appeal, like the BlackBerry Classic and Passport.
