Trends happen. Whether we like it or not, manufacturers tend to grasp onto certain elements and just run with it. Run with it like their in a cart that doesn't have any brakes, and it's all downhill from here. Sometimes it's a good thing! Heck, maybe even more often than not it can be seen as a good thing, as it brings us new features or hardware designs.

A trend that's really, really good for us is the digital personal assistant. Apple introduced Siri, and despite the fact that there were plenty of reports and editorials out there that suggested Apple's new creation wasn't that great, and no one would use it, developers and manufacturers alike pounced on the idea.

It may not have started off all that well, but that was just a speed bump and not a road block. Now, a few years later, our digital personal assistants really stand out all on their own. Apple's Siri has seen plenty of upgrades since its debut in 2011, Google Now is far more integrated into people's lives than ever before, and Microsoft's Cortana has landed on the scene with a big bang.

So, sometimes trends work out for us.

And other times, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, they're just really annoying. Thankfully, the really annoying ones tend to be things that are relatively small, and probably trends that you can just outright ignore more often than not. You can not use Siri or Google Now or Cortana, but they're going to be on your device whether you like it or not. You can't really avoid them in that case.

But, what about color options for our devices? Easily left out of the conversation for anyone looking to get their hands on a new device, right? It's easy enough: You just don't buy that color, if that's not the color you like. It's been that way for a long time, but now manufacturers are tossing in more colors for us to ignore -- or buy, whatever your decision may be.

I'm just not even remotely interested in gold-hued (or champagne, if you want) devices. It started with Apple's iPhone 5s, and now we've got devices popping up all over the place that show off the light-tinted color. Samsung has their own with the recently launched Galaxy S5. HTC? Yep, they've got you covered with the One M8. There are rumors suggesting that the LG G3, the flagship handset set to replace the G2 later this year, will come in a gold offering, too.

But, what really set me off last night, was the reveal that LG's upcoming Android Wear smartwatch, the G Watch, would come in a gold option, too. In defense of the G Watch, there isn't much gold happening there, but it's still enough. More than enough. And I just want it to go away.

I have yet to see a gold smartphone out in the wild, yet. I'm sure I will eventually, especially if manufacturers keep making the devices. But I really, really want them to just go away. This was never a trend I wanted to see start, and now we can't seem to get away from it.
