LG has never really been one to wait for major shows in order to announce its new hardware. Instead, the Life's Good crew has a tendency to introduce its new products in the weeks leading up to big events, just like it recently did with the G Pro 2. Today LG did just that once again, introducing us to its new L Series models ahead of Mobile World Congress.

The L Series III lineup of smartphones consists of the L40, L70 and L90 models, and as you might expect from their names, the higher-numbered units sport higher-end specs. Starting out at the low-end is the L40 and its 3.5-inch 480x320 display. Inside of the device is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and either a 1700mAh or 1540mAh removable battery, depending on the market that it's in. Rounding out the L40's spec sheet is a 3-megapixel camera, 14.4Mbps HSPA connectivity and Android 4.4 running beneath LG's custom user interface.

One step above the L40 is the L70 and its 4.5-inch 800x480 IPS display. The L70 features the same 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 4GB of storage as the L40, but boosts its RAM up to a full gig and its HSPA connectivity up to 21Mbps. The L70 also adds a VGA front-facing shooter, and around back is either an 8-megapixel or 5-megapixel camera, depending on the market that it's in. A removable 2100mAh battery powers the L70, while a combination of Android 4.4 and LG's custom software overlay comes preloaded on the device.

Rounding out the L Series III trio is the L90. This device boasts a 4.7-inch 960x540 IPS screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 8GB of storage, all of which make it the highest-end handset of this group. There's also 1GB of RAM, 21Mbps HSPA connectivity and a removable 2540mAh battery inside of the L90's frame. On the outside is an 8-megapixel rear shooter and 1.3-megapixel front camera, and as with the other two L Series III phones, the L90 comes preloaded with Android 4.4 and LG's custom UI.

LG says that it will offer Quick Window covers for its new L Series III phones, allowing users to see incoming calls and view the time without actually opening up the cover. One detail that LG didn't spill is exactly when the devices themselves will actually launch, but the company does promise that the L Series III hardware will make the trek to Mobile World Congress later this month, so it won't be too long before we're able to take these things for a spin.
