Time to add another name to the list of mobile companies that'll soon be entering the wearables arena. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Huawei plans to introduce its own smartwatch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. Unfortunately for those of us that are hungrier for more than that bite-sized bit of info, details on the smartwatch are still light, and a Huawei spokesperson declined to shed any more light on the upcoming wearable.
Of course, Huawei won't be coming to MWC with just a watch on its wrist; the company is also expected to bring a new smartphone and a pair of tablets to the show. Once again, there's not a lot of information available about the new products as of this writing, but Huawei did say that the phone will not be a follow-up to the Ascend P6 that launched in 2013. The company teased that that device will make its debut at a dedicated event later in 2014.
It seems as though just about every mobile device maker either already has a smartwatch on the market or is rumored to have one cooking in its kitchens. Samsung has its Galaxy Gear, with a successor expected soon, and we've also heard that Google, LG, Apple and others have their own wearables on the way. That's why it's not a huge surprise to hear that Huawei also has a smartwach product in the works. We may not know much about it right now, but smartwatches are still a fairly young product segment and Huawei has put together some nice-looking hardware in the past, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of watch the company can cook up.
