When Motorola first announced the Moto X and its Moto Maker customization tool, the company revealed that in addition to having several different color options for the phone's backside, customers would eventually be able to create a Moto X with a real wood back as well. The company didn't reveal much else about the wooden rear covers at the time, but today it looks like the source code of Motorola's website may have shed a little more light on its plans.
As noted by Droid-Life, the code for Motorola's website contains options for bamboo, ebony, rosewood and teak along with all of the regular color options. However, while the colors each end '"price":0,' the entries for the four wooden options end in '"price":50.' That means that a 16GB Moto X with a wooden back would be priced at $249 with a two-year commitment, while a more capacious 32GB wooden unit would set buyers back $299.
Considering that Motorola hasn't made any announcements about its plans for the wooden Moto X backs or when they'll be available, the pricing details contained in this source code probably shouldn't be taken as official information quite yet. That said, the backs that'll be used on the custom Moto Xs will be made of actual wood, and so consumers that are interested in adding a wooden rear to their Moto X should probably expect to pay some sort of premium over the basic plastic cover.
