Verizon's Edge frequent-upgrader program is set to launch in just a couple of days, giving consumers the chance to spread the full cost of a smartphone out over 24 months and then upgrade again six months later if they'd like. Unfortunately for Verizon customers that have a white-knuckle grip on an unlimited data plan, Verizon Edge is only offered with Share Everything plans, meaning that any unlimited customers that want to sign up for Edge would need to drop their bottomless data bucket to do so.

There is a little bit of good news for any Verizon unlimited data customers interested in Edge, though, as it appears that the big red carrier is planning a special data plan offer for those users. Dubbed "Verizon Max," the feature is made up of two plans that include 6GB of data for $30 per month and 8GB of data plus tethering for $50 per month. That's according to documentation shared by Droid-Life, which goes on to reveal that Verizon Max will launch on Aug. 25 (the same date as Edge) and will be available available only for a limited time.

This Verizon Max offer is quite a bit better than the Share Everything data plans that Verizon offers, which include 6GB of data for $80, 8GB for $90 and 10GB for $100, plus an additional $40 per month for the smartphone line access. It's kind of nice to see Verizon create some specialized data plans for unlimited customers that want to try Verizon Edge, even though I wouldn't be surprised if part of its motivation in doing so was an attempt to get more folks off of unlimited. Whether or not Verizon Max convinces many customers to give up their unlimited data remains to be seen (I doubt it), but it's the thought that counts, right?
