Just as promised, Sony today divulged some more details on its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean rollout plans for several of its Xperia smartphones. The company says that the Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia E dual are all slated to begin receiving updates to Android 4.1 starting this week with a phased distribution that will ramp up over the next couple of months. Included in the update is a mix of Google and Sony features:
Sony says that some users, particularly those with the Xperia go, will only be able to update to Jelly Bean using the company's Bridge for Mac or PC Companion software. Additionally, those users will only receive an update notification on their phones if they're running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Because these updates will be made available in phases, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia E dual owners will want to keep an eye on their notification panels in the coming weeks.
Now I'm sure that there are several Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia acro S and Xperia ion owners thinking to themselves, "Hey, what about my phone?!" Sony says that those models are next in line to be bumped up to Jelly Bean, with updates expected to begin at the end of May. That's all that we know about those updates for now, but I'm sure that Sony will have more details to spill as we get closer to the start of the rollouts. Stay tuned and we'll fill you in with more information as we get it.
