Remember the Keon and Peak Firefox OS developer phones that were announced by Geeksphone earlier this year? The two handsets finally went on sale early this morning, and unfortunately for anyone that wasn't awake at the time, both models sold out fairly quickly. The good news is that Geeksphone is working to get restock its store, telling TechCrunch that it hopes to have more devices available for purchase by Friday. The company went on to say that it's seen strong demand for the Keon and Peak so far.

As a quick refresher, the Keon is the lower-end model of the pair, featuring a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor, 3-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, microSD slot and a 1,580mAh battery. The Keon sports a fairly wallet-friendly price tag as well, though, coming in at just $119 for an unlocked unit.

The Peak steps things up a bit with a 4.3-inch qHD IPS display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, microSD slot and 1,800mAh battery. Pricing for the Peak is set at $194 for an unlocked model.

Mozilla's Firefox OS is an open source mobile OS that's based on Linux and runs HTML5 apps. So far we've seen Alcatel, LG and ZTE pledge to create consumer Firefox OS hardware, and the first devices running the platform are expected to begin arriving later this year in countries like Brazil and Spain. Mozilla has said that it's targeting the entry-level portion of the smartphone market with Firefox OS, which explains why the first consumer handsets like the Alcatel One Touch Fire and ZTE Open sport some pretty low-end specs. The good news for Mozilla is that while it's not known exactly how many Keon and Peak units that Geeksphone has moved, the fact that they sold out so quickly suggests that there is some developer interest in Firefox OS.
