Many rumors surrounding Nokia's Lumia 928 for Verizon have claimed that the device would be introduced some time in April. However, a source familiar with the current date (also known as a "calendar") says that the month of April is nearing an end, and there's been no official announcement of the device from Nokia or Verizon. A new report that's surfaced this morning claims that things will stay that way through the remainder of April, as the Lumia 928 is purportedly now due to be introduced in May.
Tipsters speaking to Bloomberg say that Nokia and Verizon are planning to debut the Lumia 928 sometime next month, though an exact date isn't given. The device is described as featuring a 4.5-inch display, 8-megapixel rear camera, wireless charging and an metal frame. Those specs line up with what we've heard from previous rumors, save for the part about the metal body. Instead, recent reports have suggested that Nokia has opted for a polycarbonate shell for the Lumia 928, a feature that seems to have been backed up by recent image leaks of the 928.
The reason that Nokia and Verizon are waiting until May to announce the Lumia 928, says The Verge, is that Nokia is waiting for Microsoft to finish up testing of the new Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update. That update is rumored to include FM radio support and some special Lumia-specific features. The Lumia 928 itself will be the first high-end Nokia Lumia model to launch on Verizon, which is big for Nokia and exciting for all of the Windows Phone fans on Big Red. Unfortunately, those folks may have to wait a tad longer than previously anticipated for the 928. Considering that Verizon customers went through the entire Windows Phone 7 cycle with just a single WP7 product, though, waiting one more month for a new Lumia shouldn't be a huge deal.
