Microsoft's Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet finally launched earlier this month in both 64GB and 128GB flavors. However, several customers say that they had trouble acquiring a 128GB unit, with fast sellouts reported both at Microsoft's online store as well as at brick and mortar locations for Best Buy, Microsoft and Staples. Anyone interested in picking up a new 128GB Surface Windows 8 Pro should keep an eye on their local Best Buy or Microsoft store in the coming days, though, as Surface general manager Panos Panay today revealed that more units should be arriving in those locations "by Saturday." Panay also said that Microsoft is now shipping more 64GB stock to Best Buy and Staples as well as Microsoft's online and physical stores.
The Surface Windows 8 Pro is the second Surface tablet to come to market, following the Windows RT-powered that launched in late October 2012. The Pro model has a few notable features that may cause customers to choose it over the RT unit, such as the ability to run full-on Windows 7 desktop apps in addition to Windows Store apps, more built-in storage and a higher-resolution display. Pricing for the Surface Windows 8 Pro is set at $899 for the 64GB model and $999 for the 128GB flavor.
Microsoft has yet to divulge any specific sales numbers for either of its Surface models, but Panay said today that "there continues to be great demand" for the Surface Windows 8 Pro model. I'm sure that there are plenty of Surface-less customers that are glad to know that more 64GB and 128GB models are on their way to retailers, and it's good to see Microsoft pushing more units out into the market within the first week of the Surface Windows 8 Pro's launch. Of course, we don't know exactly how much stock of either version is heading to stores, so anyone that still in the hunt for a 128GB model may want to become BFFs with the local Best Buy and Microsoft employees as soon as possible. How many of you already have a Surface tablet or plan to get one at some point? If so, which model do you have/want?
@evansturdivant We are shipping more 64gb now to BBY, Staples, MS Store and online. 128gb at BBY and MS Stores by Saturday #winchat
