Have an iPhone 4S? Then you'll want to fire up ye olde Software Update, because Apple has begun rolling out an update to iOS 6.1.1 for last-gen handset. As spotted by The Next Web, the update is build number 10B145 and is available for download manually right here. According to the changelog provided by Apple, the iOS 6.1.1 update addresses an issue "that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S." This update comes just two weeks after Apple released iOS 6.1 to the masses.

As noted by our friends at Today's iPhone, iOS 6.1 has been causing problems for some iPhone owners since it was pushed out, with European carrier Vodafone going so far as to advise its 4S-toting customers to avoid iOS 6.1 due to a bug related to 3G performance. Obviously having solid 3G performance is kind of important in a smartphone, and with operators telling their customers to avoid iOS 6.1, it's no surprise that Apple rushed to get iOS 6.1.1 out to the iPhone 4S.

It's also worth mentioning that this update is only going out to the iPhone 4S. 9to5Mac explains that since Apple already released a beta version of iOS 6.1.1 for all eligible iOS devices, though, the company is planning to pack today's 3G fix in with the other goodies in the iOS 6.1.1 beta (like Maps improvements for Japan) and release a new beta version of iOS at some point in the future. For now, it looks like iPhone 4S owners will be the only ones at today's iOS update party.
