The background story below only covers the past five years of my life and I'm hoping you read it before my editorials. Shakespeare said it best, so, Without Further Ado …
I graduated from the University of Tampa in 2011 with my B.S. in Accounting and a minor in Writing. I was a writing major when I arrived at U.T. because I enjoyed it. I wrote for my high school newspaper and also wrote a few articles for The Minaret, U.T.'s newspaper. Having said this, there are three active writers in my family, and zero accountants, so my biography will make absolutely no sense to you if you stop reading now.
The writer's strike was in the news for my first two years of undergrad. It really made me think about my future and how to approach my life once I graduated. At the time, that was just too much to handle, so I decided to pick up a major in economics because I liked my Macroeconomics professor. One semester later, I realized this wasn't going to work because economics and writing shared no direct correlation. Also, my supply and demand charts were backwards.
I switched my major to accounting after being intrigued by my Financial Accounting course, which was part of the lower-core requirements for economics majors. I kept writing alive by keeping it my minor.
After duking-it-out with my Audit professor, Business Law professor, Intermediate Accounting I professor, and Linguistics professor, I was ready to enter the job market. I took a few courses between, but those were the highest mountains I had to climb.
Five months after graduating, I landed at Siemens Industry, Inc. where I am an accountant. I love my job and I'm extremely thankful for the risk they took hiring me. I've been there a year and a half and have truly enjoyed every second with the company.
But I think PhoneDog is taking an even bigger risk on me.
My personal goals have been ramping up daily since New Year's Day, which is why I sent an email to Taylor Martin asking how to get into the mobile industry. Risk taking is my hobby and I was ready to try something new.
So, it is with unprecedented excitement and honor that I can begin writing editorials for PhoneDog, the most influential mobile tech-site this side of the web. For those wondering what the other side is like – don't worry, this is the better side.
I think I've rambled on enough, so I'd like to tell you what I'm most excited about, what I'm going to do, and my personal goals within the PhoneDog community. I'll list some bullet points about myself after that.
The opportunity to share my thoughts and opinions with the community. If you're new to mobile news and technology, stop by PhoneDog because I'm new to writing editorials! I aim to give you news and slanted opinions that relate to you: the end user. I am also excited to be a part of the changes that PhoneDog is embarking on. All puns aside, this is going to be an exciting time and being a part of this team is a privilege.
Share what interests me in the realm of smartphone news. Hopefully my opinions hook you! Be prepared for some outlandish ideas and some believable ones, too. I'm also pumped to get my paws wet with the Rumor Dog and challenge some of his ideas because I love guessing games.
Some of my personal goals include obtaining my master’s, getting another bachelor's degree in a computer-related field, becoming a CPA, traveling, writing a rap, and jamming more eloquently to some Lamb of God face-melters.
