Both the iPad mini and fourth generation iPad officially went on sale at the tail end of last week, and this morning Apple got up bright and early to share an early sales figure for its new tablets. The Cupertino firm says that it sold three million iPads in three days, which is double the number of Wi-Fi new iPads that it sold back in March. That three million figure includes both the iPad mini and the fourth gen iPad. Apple CEO Tim Cook says that his company is "practically sold out of iPad minis" and that its working to build more units to meet demand.
Rumors of a smaller version of Apple's iPad have been swirling just about since the original model debuted in 2010, but those rumors finally became reality with the launch of the 7.9-inch iPad mini. It's worth noting that only one version of Apple's new shrunken iPad has been released so far, as cellular-enabled versions of both the iPad mini and fourth generation iPad are expected to launch "in a few weeks." Customers that would rather opt for the Wi-Fi-only iPad mini can now take advantage of Apple's Personal Pickup system, which allows them to add to this three million units sold figure by reserving an iPad mini on Apple's website between 10 P.M. and 4 A.M. and then pick it up the following day at an Apple store that has stock of that model. Of the three million iPads sold this past weekend, how many do you think were iPad minis?
