Well, this is surprising. Back in mid-August, Motorola filed a complaint against Apple with the International Trade Commission, claiming that the Cupertino firm had violated seven of its patents with devices like the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers. Fast-forward to today, though, and Motorola has apparently decided to drop its complaint entirely. FOSS Patents has discovered a filing submitted by Moto to the ITC saying that it'd like to withdraw its claims, adding that there are no agreements between itself and Apple that have anything to do with the subject of this claim. Unsurprisingly, Apple didn't oppose Motorola's motion.

While Motorola's filing explains that it's dropping its complaint against Apple and that the two companies don't have any agreements in place that would make them want to withdraw, one thing that Moto doesn't mention is exactly why it's giving its complaint the axe. FOSS Patents gives some suggestions as to what may have been the cause of the withdrawal, including Motorola possibly not having all of the documents for its related patents ready or that the company found something that caused it to feel like its complaint wouldn't be successful. However, unless Motorola decides to shed some light on the situation, we may not learn the company's actual reason(s) for dropping its case.
