Microsoft wasn't the only one making an announcement today, as Nokia has revealed U.S. availability information for its 808 PureView, as was speculated over the weekend. Nokia is teaming up with Amazon to launch the 808 PureView here in the States, which will come in unlocked and will work with AT&T and T-Mobile, although T-Mo customers will only get 2G speeds. The 808 PureView will be priced at $699 (again, unlocked and sans contract) with pre-orders kicking off at Amazon.com later this week. No firm launch date has been revealed.
One of the headlining features of the Nokia 808 PureView is its 41-megapixel camera sensor that can also capture 1080p video. The 808 PureView also features "Nokia Rich Recording," which the Finnish manufacturer claims can record audio at "CD-like levels of quality." Other specs include 4-inch 640x360 ClearBlack AMOLED touchscreen, 16GB built-in storage, microSD slot, NFC, 1,400mAh battery and the Symbian operating system. While the 808 PureView and its $699 price tag won't appeal to everyone, it's good to see Nokia making it easy for U.S. customers that are interested in the device to actually buy one. UPDATE: Nokia has updated its announcement of the 808 PureView's U.S. availability to say that the handset will work with 3G on T-Mobile as well as AT&T. Nokia's previous statement claiming that it would only work with 2G on T-Mobile was caused by an error on the device's spec sheet.
