We're starting to get pretty close to the iPad 3's rumored early March debut, and just like in the period of time running up to previous Apple device launches, we're continuing to see new claims about the iOS tablet pop up. The latest report comes from CNBC, which just posted a tweet claiming that its sources have said that the iPad 3 will debut at an event in New York City next week. The tipsters also allege that the new iPad will feature a quad-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity.
Both a quad-core processor and 4G LTE support are features that have been rumored for the iPad 3 in the past. However, a photo showing an alleged iPad 3 logic board recently surfaced showing an A5X chip, suggesting that the new tablet may instead feature a new version of Apple's dual-core A5 processor rather than an all-new quad-core chip. The iPad 3 is also rumored to feature a high-res 2048x1536 display. As with all other reports on upcoming iDevices, nothing's official until the folks at Apple make it so, but the good news is that we may only be about a week out from that happening. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, who has been known to be an accurate source of Apple news in the past, has responded to CNBC's report by saying that the iPad 3 event won't be held in New York City. No other details were given.
