Earlier this month we learned that Motorola had won an injunction against the push email portion of Apple's iCloud and MobileMe services in Germany, but at the time we mentioned that Moto would have to pony up a bond if it wanted the injunction enforced. It looks like Motorola has decided to do just that, as Apple has revealed that push email support for both iCloud and MobileMe is currently unavailable in Germany. The Cupertino firm notes that customers can still receive their iCloud and MobileMe mail by setting their devices to fetch new data at certain intervals and that push is still available for contacts and calendars. Apple has said that it's appealing the court's decision on the matter. The full statement:
"This ruling only impacts customers in Germany who use a Push setting to get their MobileMe and iCloud email. These customers will still receive email to their devices. Apple believes this patent is invalid and is appealing the decision."
Considering that setting your email to Fetch can be a tad slower than using Push services, I'm sure that the fact that iCloud and MobileMe Push is now unavailable to German users is a bit of inconvenience to them. Still, users can still get push email from other services like Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and hey, getting fetch email is better than no email at all. I'm sure it won't be long before we hear more on the tiff between Apple and Motorola or one of the battles going on between just about every other tech company around, so stay tuned!
