Interested in learning a name that may be applied to an upcoming Sony Ericsson product? Look no further than a recent trademark filing submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which reveals that Sony Ericsson applied for the trademark to the name "Xperia Ion" earlier this month. The filing mentions that the name will be used on a mobile phone, but outside of that it offers no details on the device itself or when we'll see it come to market, if we do at all.
So the question is, just what kind of handset might Sony Ericsson be planning to hit with the "Xperia Ion" branding? We won't know for sure until the company actually announces the thing (or never uses it at all), but we've seen a few possibilities include the Nozomi, the LT28at or some other product that we've yet to lay our eyes on. The good news is that with CES right around the corner, the Xperia Ion name may not be so mysterious for much longer.
