Earlier this month we saw Motorola make both the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition officially official, but because both of the models announced are destined for U.K. and Ireland, there was no Verizon-branded model to be found. As is usually the case, though, we've got leaks like the one you see above to help fill the void until Moto and Verizon make an announcement here in the U.S. The folks at Pocketnow have procured a render of a Xoom 2 Media Edition DROID Xyboard 8.2 with Verizon and 4G LTE tattoos on its backside. Backing up the claim from earlier this week that the new Xooms will be known as Xyboards on Verizon, Pocketnow also has a small shot of the DROID Xyboard branding that'll be used in conjunction with the slates.
The name "Xyboard" is definitely kind of a strange choice, especially considering that Moto's already got the established "Xoom" brand, but Verizon may have wanted to try and break away from the Xoom name and start fresh with Xyboard while also adding the new slates into its DROID family of products. Plus, it doesn't hurt that "Xyboard" kind of sounds like "cyborg," keeping up with the DROID line's whole robot theme. Last we heard both the 10.1-inch and 8.2-inch Xyboards could be hitting Verizon later this month. If that rumor holds true, expect to hear official word from Verizon soon.
