HTC may be cranking away on a quad-core Android tablet for MWC next year, but it's not the only company that's hard at work on such a device. Today reports emerged claiming that both Acer and Lenovo are also prepping quad-core Tegra 3 slates running Google's mobile operating system. First up, the folks at Engadget have gotten word that Lenovo will be launching a 1.6GHz quad-core Ice Cream Sandwich tablet before the end of 2011. The device is said to be packing a 10.1-inch display, rear camera, 2GB RAM, standard USB port, "Special Fusion-Skin Body," and a fingerprint scanner on the rear that can also be used as an optical joystick. Other information is still light, but if this mystery slate is indeed coming before year's end, expect to hear more soon.
Moving on to Acer, some User Agent Profiles found on the company's own site have shown that Acer is planning a device named the A510 that features a 1280x800 display, quad-core Tegra 3 processor, and Android powering the show. A separate User Agent Profile also revealed a 3G-enabled version of the A510 that's called the A511. No other details were revealed.
So there you have it. It's not a surprise to see so many manufacturers are hopping on board with the Tegra 3 tablet train so quickly, not only because of the extra horsepower that the processor will provide but also just because "quad-core" will look nice on a device's spec sheet.
