If you were planning to use your shiny new Motorola DROID Bionic to show off Verizon's 4G LTE network to your buddies at dinner tonight, you may want to put the demonstration off for now. Our buds at VZBuzz have learned that Verizon is currently experiencing a nationwide LTE outage with 100 percent attach failures. According to the site's tipster, if you're still connected to 4G right now but decide to flip your phone into airplane mode and then back again, you'll lose the LTE connection. So anyone still chugging along on 4G may want to avoid doing that.
Verizon hasn't officially acknowledged the outage yet, but as you can see in the image above, it's well aware of the problem. We'll let you know more about the situation as we get it. In the mean time, you 4G LTE device owners should let us know how the network is in your neck of the woods. (If you can bear to use your 4G device on 3G, that is.)
UPDATE: Verizon has confirmed on its official @VZWSupport Twitter account that it's been alerted to the 4G outage and that its engineers are working to correct the problem.
UPDATE 2: Verizon just pinged us to explain the situation, saying that customers were unable to establish new 4G data connections from 5:15 PM ET to 8:20 PM ET tonight. The cause of the issue has yet to be identified, but Verizon has confirmed that everything is back to normal again. The full statement is below:
"4G LTE users were unable to initiate new data connections over our 4G LTE network from approximately 5:15 pm to 8:20 pm ET on Monday. Existing 4G LTE sessions were not interrupted, and all data traffic nationwide was carried over our EV-DO network. All systems are now fully functional and at full speed. We are working with our vendor partners to investigate the cause of this temporary issue, and appreciate our customers' understanding."
