If you're a T-Mobile myTouch 4G or G2 owner still waiting for your over the air update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread to come to your neck of the woods, you'll soon be able to take matters into your own hands. T-Mobile has updated its support documents to show that owners of both devices will be able to waltz into one of the carrier's retail stores on August 6th and have one of T-Mobile's friendly neighborhood reps manually install the Gingerbread update. Originally we heard that the myTouch 4G update would be available on August 5th, but it looks like T-Mobile's bumped it back a day for reasons unknown. Unfortunately, those of us in the Midwest and West regions of the U.S. will have to wait until August 13th to have Android 2.3 placed on our myTouch 4Gs and G2s.

One other quick note for those of you considering going this route for the update: T-Mobile notes that updating your phone at a store can erase all of the data on your handset, but it'll leave the data on your SD card intact. Be sure to back up your data before making the trek to your local T-Mobile shop.

It's good to see T-Mobile making it easy for myTouch 4G and G2 owners get a taste of Gingerbread, especially since we all know how frustrating it can be to wait for an OTA update to make its way to our devices while watching it hit everyone else's. Kind of a bummer that Midwesterners and Westerners will need to wait an extra week to have a T-Mobile rep install 2.3, but hey, you could always move to the East Coast in order to get Gingerbread quicker. Sounds like a perfectly good idea to me.
