Good news for you myTouch 4G owners that still haven't gotten a taste of Gingerbread: T-Mobile has updated its support document to show that beginning August 5th, myTouch 4G owners that haven't yet received the Android 2.3 over the air update can waltz into a T-Mobile retail location and have the new software installed on the spot. The update will be installed by a T-Mobile rep using an SD card and can erase all data on the phone, so be sure to back up your data if you plan to go this route. T-Mobile says that any data on the user's SD card will be safe.
T-Mobile announced earlier this month that the myTouch 4G's Gingerbread update would be rolled out in a "limited pilot" beginning July 20th, but the carrier hasn't said when a broader push will kick off. Because of this, it's exciting to see that myTouch 4G owners can head into their local T-Mobile store starting August 5th and finally get their helping of Gingerbread that way. Sure, it may not be quite as convenient as an OTA update, but it's good news for myTouch 4G owners that are getting antsy waiting for Android 2.3 to come to their neck of the woods.
