Well, this news came out of nowhere. Google announced today that Eric Schmidt will be stepping down as the company's Chief Executive Officer, although he'll stick around as Executive Chairman and advisor to co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Page will be the one to take Schmidt's place as Google CEO, while Brin will be working on "strategic projects," with a focus on new products. The change will be effective beginning April 4th.
This is pretty big news as Eric Schmidt has basically been the face of Google for some time now, but the good news is that he'll continue to take part in partnerships, business relationships, and government interaction. As for Larry Page, both he and Sergey Brin founded Google, so I'm sure that the company is going to be just fine without Schmidt at the helm. Still, this is pretty big news, and it'll be interesting to see how things change going forward, if they do at all.
