As you probably all know by now, Sony Ericsson is planning to release the gaming-centric PlayStation Phone next year, possibly in March. Motorola's recent "Stadia" trademark filing shows that SE may not be the only one with a gaming phone in the pipeline, though. The uncharacteristically-long description of the Stadia says that it's a "handheld game device in the nature of hand-held units for playing electronic games for use with external display screen or monitor." It doesn't stop there, though, as the trademark also mentions "lectronic non-medical portable device for measuring, storing, transferring and synchronizing an individual’s physical exercise and activity levels including date, time, heart rate, global positioning, direction, distance, altitude, speed, distance, calories and temperature." So we're looking at a phone focused on gaming and fitness that can be used with an external monitor?
It can sometimes be tough to figure out what a company is planning to do with a trademark, but this one from Motorola is especially difficult to pin down. There are a number of things that the Stadia could end up becoming: a gaming smartphone, a fitness-focused device, a simple feature phone, or even an entire line of devices. We'll just have to wait for more information to come to light to get a clear ida of just what Moto's intentions for the Stadia are.
