Nokia will be releasing some devices running the new MeeGo OS next year, but that doesn't mean that they'll be abandoning Symbian completely. Quite the opposite, actually, as the company recently announced that they'll be bringing over 50 enhancements to Symbian in an update slated to arrive in Q1 2011, including a redesigned browser UI. More updates are planned for the second and third quarters and will bring a "new look and feel" to the UI, a "more flexible home screen," an up-to-date HTML5 browser, as well as "an easier software update experience." Nokia's software won't be the only thing getting upgraded next year, though, as the company is also planning to release devices with 1GHz in 2011. There are also plans for dual-core processors and a new "true zoom camera" tech, but those won't debut until Q4 2011 or Q1 2012.
The less-than-stellar software experience was one of the biggest complaints that many reviewers had with Nokia's N8, so it's great to see that they're addressing those issues with a ton of updates coming over the next year. All of the hardware upgrades will be welcome, too, especially the idea of more powerful processors. I just hope that Nokia doesn't wait too long to launch dual-core phones, because the competition will be bringing dual-core devices early next year. Nokia didn't bother to explain what a "true zoom camera" was, but many speculate that it could be bringing optical zoom to camera phones, which would be pretty crazy.
