Everyone already knew that the Nexus S was going to be offered at all Best Buy locations across the country on December 16th, but today the retailer outlined all of the details that you'll need to know to hunt down a Nexus S on launch day.  We've taken all of the information and broken it down into an easy-to-read, bulleted list:

• All stores open at 8 AM local time, while BestBuy.com opens are 8 AM EST.
• Limit of two phones per customer.
• You can buy the Nexus S for $199 with a two-year T-Mobile contract or, if you like to live life on the contract-free edge, you'll pay $529 for the privilege.  Add-a-line activations will set you back $249.99.
• If you're not sure if you're eligible for an upgrade, Best Buy will have the Upgrade Checker to find out for you and can send you a call, text, or email you when your upgrade time gets close
• Best Buy employees will help you set up your phone (if you want them to) and make sure that you Walk Out Working
• Finally, if you're not completely sold on a Nexus S just yet, all Best Buy stores will have demo units on hand to help push you over the edge

When the Nexus One launched, it wasn't offered in any brick and mortar store, including T-Mobile and Best Buy stores, so it's nice to see Google and T-Mo do a complete 180 with the Nexus S.  I'm sure that there were more than a few Nexus One sales lost because customers couldn't get hands-on time with the device, so here's to hoping that things are different this time around.  I'm not sure if I'll be buying a Nexus S just yet, but I plan on going to my local Best Buy on the 16th to at least check the device out for myself.  How many of you are planning to do the same or, even better, actually buy one?

UPDATE: The folks at Android and Me have received an anonymous tip claiming to know exactly how many Nexus S devices that each Best Buy will be getting on the 16th.  The breakdown is as follows:

• Big box Best Buy locations that sell T-Mobile contracts in store will have on average 35 units Thursday
• Big box Best Buy locations that do not, will have on average 4 units Thursday
• Best Buy Mobile locations that sell T-Mobile will have on average 72 units Thursday
• Best Buy Mobile locations that do not, will have on average 4 units Thursday
• There will be plenty of transferring product around from Best Buy to Best Buy to even out counts as needed, but these are the numbers shipping to stores
• There will be plenty of units for orders placed online and shipped to the customer

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 13, 2010 – All Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores launch Nexus S in-stores and online at BestBuy.com on Thursday, Dec. 16. Nexus S, from Google and Samsung, is the world’s first smart phone with Android 2.3, Gingerbread.

Here are some important details for the launch of Nexus S:

Timing: Online sales of Nexus S begin at 8 a.m. Eastern time to coincide with the opening of Best Buy stores on the East Coast. As a reminder, all Best Buy stores have adjusted their holiday hours to open at 8 a.m.
 
Availability: Nexus S is available in all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores. Exact inventory will vary by store. Nexus S will be sold out on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of 2 per phones customer.
 
Demo phones: All Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores will have a Nexus S demo phone on-hand so customers can see and experience the phone.
 
Pricing: The Nexus S is an unlocked phone and can be purchased without contract for $529. The Nexus S can also be purchased for $199 with a TMobile two-year service agreement and qualifying voice and data plan. Nexus S can also be purchased for $249.99 for add-a-line activations.
 
As with all smart phones it sells, Best Buy Mobile will have a full assortment of accessories for Nexus S and offers an array of services aimed at improving the mobile phone buying experience, including:

Upgrade Checker:A quick and easy service that gives customers the ability to see when they are eligible for their next phone upgrade. When the upgrade time is nearing, customers receive a complimentary reminder call, e-mail or text message.
 
Walk Out Working™:  Free in-store smart phone setup by a Best Buy Mobile Phone Specialist who will sync personal email accounts, set up Bluetooth headsets, transfer contacts and activate other services to allow the customer to leave the store with a fully functional new smart phone.
