Samsung's Epic 4G, the Sprint-branded version of the Galaxy S, will be launching on August 31st, aka tomorrow. To help customers get the Epic in their hands as early as possible, Sprint will be opening its stores at 8 AM. The Epic 4G will be Sprint's second WiMAX-capable handset and comes with Android 2.1 (an update to Android 2.2 is planned), a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 1 GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture, front-facing VGA camera, and a sliding QWERTY keyboard, which is something that helps to set the Epic apart from its Galaxy S brethren. When it comes to pricing, the Epic will set you back $249.99 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate.
Sprint has had trouble keeping its other 4G phone, HTC's EVO 4G, in stock ever since the device's launch back at the beginning of June (although it is finally back in stock on Sprint's website). Judging by the pre-release hype surrounding the Epic, Sprint may have some supply issues with it, as well. Add in the fact that there is still somewhat of a lack of high-end Android phones with a QWERTY keyboard, and the Epic looks like it could claim the title as king of Android phones. With the rapid pace of state of the art new phones being released that run the Android OS, though, how long it stays on top of the pile is anyone's guess.
