When the HTC Touch Pro2 landed on Verizon, I knew it would be successful for two reasons: (1) the price point (lower than any of its competitors), and (2) it's the first exciting Windows Mobile device to land on the carrier in quite some time. At $199.99 after rebates, Verizon placed the Touch Pro2 in a competitive position to rival the BlackBerry Tour, iPhone, and Palm Pre.
That being said, is it surprising that the nation's largest wireless carrier has sold out of the device? Personally, I don't think so. Featuring a 3.6-inch tilting touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, EVDO Rev. A, GPS, Wi-Fi, microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, it's the first Windows Mobile device that I've considered purchasing as a backup device. Fact is, it breaks away from the traditional Windows Mobile candybar form factor that's been used countless times in the past few years, and the build quality is incredible.
If you have to have the Touch Pro2 right away, Sprint and T-Mobile carry the device as well, though the GSM version doesn't include the 3.5mm headphone jack. It does offer a complimentary $150 price increase, however. There has been no official announcement as to when the stock will be replenished, but a tipster tells me that additional units should arrive as early as next week.
