Amazon announced a new Fire TV user interface earlier this year, now that update is starting to go out to users.
The new Fire TV UI will begin arriving on the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Lite this week, reports Digital Trends. Other Fire TV devices should begin getting the update in 2021.
This upgrade brings with it a few notable changes. The first you're likely to notice is a new home screen, which has been cleaned up and includes shortcuts to your favorite streaming apps. There are Library, Home, Find, and Live tabs, too, plus recommended shows to check out.
That Find page has been upgraded as well. It's meant to make it easier for you to search for something to watch as well as browse by categories like movies, TV shows, and free content as well as genres like Kids & Family, Horror, and Comedy.
Personalized profiles are a part of the new Fire TV experience, letting you set up to six different profiles with their own recommendations, viewing history, watch lists, and settings. You can also choose to designate "Kids" profiles that will restrict the content available to that profile to Amazon Kids shows.
Each person's profile can also be set up with an Alexa Voice Profile. This will enable Alexa to recognize your voice and switch to your profile when you say "Alexa, switch to my profile." Alexa is also getting better at navigation with phrases like "Alexa, go to Live TV" or "Alexa, go to News". And an Alexa Explore option coming to select Fire TV models in the coming months will show you info like weather forecasts and news headlines as well as let you view and control your smart home devices.
