Google is giving Android an accessibility boost with the launch of Look to Speak. This new app is now available to all devices running Android 9.0 or higher, including lower-cost Android One models, and it enables people to use their eyes to communicate with others.
With Look to Speak, you can make your phone speak a phrase by looking left or right. Each side of the screen starts with several different phrases to choose from and after you look left or right a few times to narrow down the choices, you'll be left with one phrase on each side of the display. Selecting a phrase will make the phone speak it aloud.
You can look up during the phrase selection process to cancel and start over. And when you're done, you can look up to snooze the app. The app can be unsnoozed at any time by following the sequence on the screen.
This new app from Google is meant to help people with speech and motor impairments. And the app allows you to customize your words or phrases, which means people using it can give it their own unique voice and personality, even if they're not able to speak themselves.
