The new Apple Watch Series 6 isn't the only new smartwatch that Apple announced today.
The Apple Watch SE is a new, more affordable smartwatch. It starts at $279 for the GPS model, making it more than $100 less than the Apple Watch Series 6, while the GPS + Cellular version starts at $329. And like the Apple Watch Series 6, the Apple Watch SE can be ordered today and it'll be available this Friday.
Apple has been selling the Apple Watch Series 3 as its more affordable smartwatch, but the Apple Watch SE includes several upgrades over that model. It's got the bigger display found on the Apple Watch Series 4 and later models, and the Apple Watch SE also includes the same S5 chip found in the Series 5 watch, which offers twice the performance of the Series 3 chip.
The internals of the Apple Watch SE also include many of the internals you'd expect from a new Apple Watch model, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, fall detection, and a swimproof body.
Even with this new Apple Watch SE, the company is also keeping the Apple Watch Series 3 around for an even more affordable way into the Apple Watch ecosystem. It'll continue to be sold for $199.
