Rumors have been going back and forth about whether or not the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will include 120Hz refresh rate support. While we still don't know for sure what'll happen, a new leak shows that Apple is still at least considering the feature.
Screenshots that purportedly come from an iPhone 12 Pro Max show the "Display" section of the iOS Settings app with a high refresh rate toggle. Leaker Jon Prosser says that these screens come from a production validation (PVT) prototype model of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
In the screenshot, there's an "Enable High Refresh Rate" toggle as an "Enable Adaptive Refresh Rate" toggle. If the Adaptive Refresh Rate is turned on, the phone will alter its refresh rate between 120Hz and 60Hz depending on what's on its screen.
We've previously heard that the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will support 120Hz refresh rates, which would make them the first iPhones to have a high refresh rate feature. However, recent rumors say that Apple is having trouble getting 120Hz driver ICs and so it may have to delay the iPhone 12 launch or just launch the iPhone 12 Pro models with a 60Hz screen.
Today's leak shows that Apple is still testing iPhone 12 Pro Max models with a 120Hz refresh rate, and so it's still possible that the higher-end iPhone 12 models will have high refresh rate screens.
Apple has offered high refresh rates on a few different iPad Pro tablets and that feature is also becoming common among Android flagships. It would be a great addition to the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max and would give owners of previous iPhones another reason to upgrade to the latest model, but we'll have to wait and see if Apple can
A second screenshot shows the iPhone 12 Pro Max's Camera settings. There's a toggle to enable the LiDAR camera to assist in autofocus and subject detection in video and night modes. There are currently no iPhone models with a LiDAR sensor, but the most recent iPad Pro models have one.
The camera settings also include toggles for enhanced video recording modes like 4K at 120fps and 240fps, an Enhanced Night Mode with extended exposure times, and an Advanced Noise Reduction.
