It's been a few years since Samsung launched a rugged Active version of its Galaxy S flagship. If you're still after a toughened phone that can stand up to some abuse, though, Samsung does have another device for you.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover FieldPro is now available from AT&T. It's priced at $36.84 per month for 30 months or $1,104.99 full retail price.
One of the main draws of the Galaxy XCover FieldPro is its rugged design. It's MIL-STD-810G and IP68 certified, meaning it can stand up to water, drops, shocks, vibrations, extreme temperatures, and humidity. The device is also glove-friendly thanks to its five physical buttons for navigating the software and a dedicated Push-to-Talk key on the side of the phone.
Another notable feature of Samsung's rugged device is its battery. The 4500mAh battery is user removable, which is a feature that used to be ubiquitous in the smartphone world but is now mostly gone.
Other features of the Galaxy XCover FieldPro include a 5.1-inch 2560x1440 display, 12MP Dual Aperture rear camera with f/2.4 and f/1.5 apertures, and an 8MP selfie cam with f/1.7 aperture. Inside the rugged shell is an octa-core Exynos 9810 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a microSD card slot.
Samsung has included a USB-C port for charging plus a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is another feature we don't see on smartphones very often. There are dual speakers on the Galaxy XCover FieldPro, too, and the phone comes preloaded with Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Galaxy XCover FieldPro was originally introduced in October 2019, but at that time it was targeted at enterprise customers. Fast-forward to today and us regular consumers can buy one from AT&T, too. Its price tag might turn some people off, but if you're looking for a new phone and durability is a top concern, the Galaxy XCover FieldPro definitely looks like it can take a beating and keep on ticking.
