We've heard a lot of rumors that Apple is working on a new iPhone 9 with a 4.7-inch display to replace the iPhone SE. But according to a new leak, Apple's also cooking up a "Plus" version of that device.
Apple is reportedly working on an iPhone 9 Plus model to go alongside its upcoming iPhone 9. 9to5Mac has discovered code within iOS 14 that suggest this model is coming and that both it and the iPhone 9 will be powered by Apple's A13 Bionic processor, which is the same chip that's inside the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.
Both the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus are also expected to have a Home button similar to the one found on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, meaning it doesn't actually click but uses a Taptic Engine to simulate a click. This means both phones will have a Touch ID fingerprint reader rather than a Face ID unlock method.
These new iPhones are also expected to support Apple Pay, Express Transit, and the ability to scan NFC tags in the background.
While no screen size for the iPhone 9 Plus is given in today's report, it could be a 5.5-inch display since that's the size of the screen on the iPhone 8 Plus, the phone the 9 Plus is expected to replace.
Finally, rumors say that Apple could launch its iPhone 9 phones in the spring.
The rumored iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus models are expected to replace the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which originally launched in late 2017. If the rumors are true and these iPhone 9 devices come to market with Apple's A13 Bionic processor, they could make for nice options for folks who don't want expensive flagships.
