It was just a couple of days ago that T-Mobile announced it was closing its stores located in indoor malls in response to the coronavirus, and now T-Mo has decided to close even more of its retail locations.
T-Mobile now says that it's temporarily closing around 80% of its retail stores until at least March 31st. The 20% that are remaining open are distributed across the country and are designed to be within a 30-minute drive for most customers. They'll have reduced schedules, with most stores operating from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm local time.
The stores that stay open will only be staffed with employees who are comfortable with and willing to work. T-Mo says that no employees will be required to work in the stores over the next two weeks.
Additionally, T-Mobile says it's rolling out a plan for its hourly retail employees to maintain their target income during the closures this month.
T-Mobile's customer care locations are reducing staffing, too. While consumers don't have access to these care sites, T-Mobile is still taking steps to fight the spread of coronavirus by reducing staffing levels and increasing the distance between workstations.
Sprint announced today that it's also closing "all but its most highly critical retail stores." Sprint says that approximately 71% of its retail stores will be temporarily closed starting today, March 17th.
The stores that are closing include Sprint retail stores as well as all Sprint Express locations at Walgreens, stores within indoor malls, and all stores in Puerto Rico.
