Last year, Verizon set the goal of launching its 5G network in 30 cities by the end of 2019, and it surpassed that number at the end of December. Now Verizon is setting another 5G goal for 2020.
Verizon is aiming to offer its 5G service in 60 cities this year. It's currently up to 34 cities after expanding to Little Rock, AR; Kansas City, MO; and Cincinnati, OH at the end of January. According to Fortune, Verizon expects to add five times as many small cell sites with 5G in 2020 that it has now, too.
The carrier has also set a goal for its 5G home internet service, which it plans to offer in 10 cities in 2020, up from the five it's currently available in.
Verizon CEO Hans Vestburg went on to tease his carrier's plans to roll out Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), which means it'll share its lower band spectrum for 4G and 5G at the same time from one cell site.
"This year we will launch nationwide 5G based on Dynamic Spectrum Sharing," Vestburg explained. "We're going to launch that when we think it's commercially right, when we see enough handsets out in the market."
In other Verizon 5G news, the big red carrier said today that its 5G network is now live in more stadiums and arenas. Specifically, Verizon's 5G has recently gone live in basketball arenas in Portland and Chicago.
Verizon 5G is now available in 24 pro football stadiums and indoor arenas.
