Samsung has announced two different smart speakers — the Galaxy Home and Galaxy Home Mini — but neither device has actually launched yet. That could finally be changing soon.
A press release was published on Samsung's South Korean website earlier today that revealed that the Galaxy Home Mini will launch in South Korea on February 12th (via Android Police). However, the announcement was pulled shortly after it went live.
The post also mentioned that the Galaxy Home Mini will cost 99,000 KRW ($83 USD).
The Galaxy Home Mini is a small Bixby-powered smart speaker with IR remote transmitters to let you control IR appliances. There are also two microphones to let you perform voice commands like other smart speakers on the market.
Samsung's now-deleted press release touts that the Galaxy Home Mini will let you send and receive messages without connecting your smartphone, too. And when connected to an external sensor, it can detect emergencies like fire and smoke.
When it comes to the speaker performance, Samsung says that the Galaxy Home Mini has 5W AKG speakers with 360-degree sound.
It's unclear when the Galaxy Home Mini might arrive in other parts of the globe, but it's good to see that at least one of Samsung's smart speakers might finally be coming to market. The original Galaxy Home was announced a year-and-a-half ago and we're still waiting on that device to launch, but we may finally get to take the smaller Bixby-powered speaker for a spin soon.
