Some folks may have been disappointed by Google's decision to launch the more affordable Pixelbook Go last year rather than release a premium Pixelbook follow-up. For those people, Samsung is here to help.
The new Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is a high-end 2-in-1 Chromebook. It's got a 13.3-inch 4K AMOLED display (3840x2160) that also works as a touchscreen. There's an S Pen stylus built into the side of the Galaxy Chromebook, too, letting you write, draw, and navigate on the Galaxy Chromebook's display.
Samsung promises that the Galaxy Chromebook will support HDR400 for high-contrast graphics as well, but that feature is coming later this year with a software update.
Inside the Galaxy Chromebook is an Intel 10th generation Core i5 processor paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. There's a 1MP front camera and an 8MP camera on the deck of the laptop, stereo speakers, and a backlit keyboard. Wi-Fi 6 is included, too, as is a fingerprint reader for added security.
When it comes to ports, you'll find two USB-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a UFS/microSD combo port. And finally, Samsung has included a 49.2Wh battery inside the Galaxy Chromebook's aluminum chassis.
Samsung will launch the Galaxy Chromebook in Q1 2020 starting at $999.99. It'll be available in Mercury Gray as well as an eye-catching Fiesta Red paint job.
With its flat edges, aluminum body, and 2-in-1 form factor, the Galaxy Chromebook definitely looks like the high-end Pixelbook successor that Google hasn't launched. That 13.3-inch 4K AMOLED display sounds like it'd be pretty great to look at, and it's nice to see Samsung include its S Pen stylus for folks who like to take notes by hand or draw on their device.
There's an array of Chromebooks available at multiple price points, and a lot of people like to buy more affordable devices to use as a cheap and fast laptop. On the other end of that spectrum is this premium Galaxy Chromebook, and while it won't be for everyone, it's nice to see Samsung launching a high-end Chromebook for folks who do want such a device.
