One of the highlight features of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are their prices, with the Pixel 3a starting at half of the price of the regular Pixel 3. Now Google has confirmed that the launch of these affordable Pixels helped it to sell more phones.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed today that sales of Pixel phones in the second quarter more than doubled compared to the same time last year. Unfortunately, Pichai didn't share any precise sales numbers, so we don't know exactly how many Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL phones that Google sold.
Here's Pichai's full quote about the Pixel 3a sales boost from the Alphabet Q2 2019 earnings call:
"With the launch of Pixel 3a in May, overall Pixel unit sales in Q2 grew more than 2x year over year. In addition to Verizon and the Google Store, we successfully expanded our distribution to T-Mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, Spectrum Mobile, and additional partners, which has greatly diversified our sales footprint in the U.S."
A combination of the lower prices and expanded availability at U.S. carriers likely helped the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL to boost sales of Google's Pixel phones. While they may not be as high-end as the standard Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL still have respectable specs, great designs, and the same high-quality camera found in the regular Pixel 3 models. Plus, they get guaranteed updates from Google just like other Pixel phones. Considering all that, it's no surprise that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL were so popular with consumers.
